PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Warrington, Inc. has been engaged in the manufacture of portable lead-based paint testing instruments since 1983.  Warrington’s most recent product is the microLEAD I - Revision 4, recognized as a rugged workhorse within the lead testing industry and widely utilized by housing authorities, health departments, military bases and private inspection companies.  The microLEAD I uses proprietary microcomputer software with high resolution X-ray filtering technology to quickly and accurately discriminate lead signals from substrate interference, and uses “K-shell detection" to ensure complete penetration on deeply buried lead-based paint.  Field readings can be electronically captured, date and time stamped, and downloaded directly to any printer for auditing or quality control over a field inspector’s activities.  The microLEAD I has recently been approved for distribution under a general license which can save hundreds of dollars per year on license fees.  Listed at $8,995 for a single unit, the microLEAD I offers sophisticated XRF technology with unbeatable price to performance over any competition.  And with XRF instruments purchased from Warrington, you will always deal directly with the manufacturer, saving 25 - 35% on commissioned sales from other suppliers.

microLEAD I   LEAD-BASED PAINT ANALYZER SPECIFICATIONS

1. Exceeds HUD/EPA (Department of Housing and Urban Development/Environmental Protection Agency) requirements for the detection of 1.0 mg/cm
2 of lead in paint on building materials.  The microLEAD I has become a standard for HUD housing authorities and public health departments across the country.

2. Reads from 0.0 to 100.0 mg/cm
2 in increments of 0.1 mg/cm2.  Precision:  ± 0.3 mg/cm2 or better on a single read cycle (sample time of 15 seconds).  Precision after three read cycles (45 second sample time):  ± 0.2 mg/cm2 or better.  Precision after nine read cycles (135 second sample time):  ± 0.1 mg/cm2 or better.  Sample time is controlled by the operator.

3. Maximum lead (Pb) reading:  100 mg/cm
2.

4. The microcomputer software analyzes the complete signal spectrum to determine the substrate correction factor.  The analyzer uses high resolution X-ray filters to resolve the lead (Pb) component of the spectrum.

5. K-shell spectrometer assures maximum paint penetration:  95% or better through 30 layers of paint.

6. Hand-held probe weight:  less than 3.5 lbs.  The probe face is able to access an area of 3.25" by 4.5".  Scan area is 2.0” in diameter.

7. Operating temperature:  20o F to 135o F.

8. Radioactive source:  10 mCi Cobalt 57 (sealed source).  “G” model is available for distribution under a general license.  No specific license or fee required.

9. An operator is only able to activate the analyzer by depressing the trigger on the probe handle.  The safety shutter is key lockable.  A protective lock (included with the analyzer) immobilizes the trigger mechanism shielding the radioactive source.  This is to prevent radiation exposure to anyone handling the analyzer when not attended by trained personnel.  For additional security a rugged, lockable carrying case is included.

10. The rechargeable batteries are self-contained, a charger and cord is included.

11. The X-ray detection element is a solid-state scintillation detector.

12. A library of X-ray fluorescence information stored in memory enables the analyzer to automatically self-tune to a broad range of densities and backgrounds, (i.e., wood, plaster, concrete).  Zero Standard and Lead Standard functions allow an operator to fine tune the analyzer's background reference to obtain accurate readings on any surface.

13. The analyzer stores the following information in memory:  up to 1,000 readings ,project numbers, unit numbers, times, and dates, which can be retrieved and printed on a standard printer. The analyzer is capable of printing out all stored information in a comprehensive report format.

14. Tuition for inspectors at a factory run users school is included in the price.  The course covers theory of operation, radiation safety practices, and provides the participants with a working knowledge of the equipment, testing procedures, and hands-on experience.  On-site training can be arranged for cost of travel expenses plus training fees.  Details of training course content are available on request.

15. The modular construction of the microLEAD I uses plug-in circuit cards giving superior ruggedness and reliability.  Source replacements and/or repairs, if needed, can typically be finished within 2 days of receipt of instrument, allowing for minimal down-time.

16. The analyzer automatically computes a running average on successive read cycles for increased accuracy.  The display readings are updated upon completion of each read cycle (every 15 seconds) until the measurement is terminated by the operator.

17. The analyzer provides movement detection, resetting the read cycle if the probe is moved during a reading, thereby eliminating many erroneous results.

18. The analyzer provides the following information on a backlighted display screen:

19. The analyzer provides display backlighting for reading the display screen in low light areas.

20. Upon power-up the analyzer automatically initiates self-diagnostics and alerts the operator to any malfunctions, low source activity, or low battery condition.

21. The analyzer automatically compensates for the natural decay of its Cobalt 57 source to ensure accurate readings through the entire life of the source.

22. Four calibration check samples are included with the instrument to verify accurate zero and lead (Pb) readings.  Wood, gypsum and concrete zero standards are provided along with a traceable lead (Pb) standard.  NIST SRM 2579 calibration standards are available at the NIST list price.

23. Over 1,000 units in operation in the U.S.
